Frequently Asked Questions
Let us try to answer your questions. Don’t see your answer here? Drop us an email at info@gardendesignsforall.co.uk
Our designs have been created so that normal planning permission is not required, however, we can’t be certain that your location and specific site won’t have some kind of restriction on it. We advise that, before you engage in the purchase or build of the design, that you check with your local planning authority and check your house purchase deeds for any restrictions. This will be your responsibility as the homeowner.

Yes, you certainly can! If you would like us to explore a bespoke design for your specific requirements, then please send us an email and we’ll get back to you to discuss how we can help. Please note that any bespoke design service will have different fees associated with them.
Our design documents are sent out to you via the email address that you have provided. The design document will be sent only in PDF format which you will then be able to print and or save for a later date. The email may well be more than 10MB in size so please ensure there is room in your inbox. We endeavour to send out the design document straightaway however it could take up to 5 working days to receive. We would also suggest checking your spam folder in case it finds its way there.
Don’t panic! Our designs have been carefully considered to be flexible in their sizing.
If your garden is more than double or more than half the size then you may need a more bespoke design which we can help with, just get in touch and we can start discussing this with you. If, however, the size difference isn’t that great we suggest that you use our plant border widths as a minimum measurement and push and pull the design around to suit your plot size. We do recommend that you maintain a minimum of 50% of the overall garden area as free draining and free from hard impermeable surfaces giving more plant and lawn area than paving. Your professional landscape contractor should be able to help with this.
Absolutely, yes, the design can still work for you. Not many gardens are totally flat and its often nice to have level changes as this creates more interest through the space.
If the levels in your garden are severe to a point of needing multiple steps out from the back of your house or a cross fall through the middle of the garden, then you may need a little more bespoke design help. Please do get in touch and we can start discussing this with you.
In less severe scenarios a professional landscape contractor will often be able to offer recommendations on how best to arrive at the chosen and intended design.
Please do consider that raising and lowering levels can result in the need for planning permissions so do check with your local planning authority and or the governments guidance before getting started. Here are some useful links below.
Some of our designs are fully accessible for those with reduced mobility or disabilities. However, if there is a design that you like the look of but feel may not be totally suited to your needs then please get in touch as we can provide additional bespoke design services for you.
Unfortunately, this is not possible as these watermarks are our way to personalise your design and to protect our drawings from being used by third parties.
No, I’m afraid not. The plants and materials shown are computer generated. We try to represent our planting schemes with computer models that match as closely as possible, although unfortunately, the technology is not quite there yet and so an exact match isn’t always possible.
Yes, we do! Please send us a message via our contact page and we will get back in touch with the purchase information.
We do not build the gardens ourselves. We do recommend that you engage with a professional landscape contractor in your local area to discuss and complete the works for you. There are several bodies that can be used to search for landscape contractors these being.
The Association of Professional Landscapers www.landscaper.org.uk
British Association Landscape Industries www.bali.org.uk/home
For simplicity and making your build project run more smoothly, we recommend that plants are sourced and provided by your chosen professional landscape contractor.
Our plant selections have been based on plants that will tolerate most normal soil types associated with new home development sites. The soil used on these sites would typically by in compliance with the British Standard BS3882 for topsoil. This soil is typically used by businesses involved in landscaping such as builders, developers, local authorities, gardeners, and landscapers. We recommend that if your garden has soil conditions that are obviously more severe, for example, heavy clay from the surface down, then you may require a more specific set of plants. We can help you with this via our bespoke and additional design service. Please do get in touch and we can start discussing this with you.
We do recommend that all plants are planted with a good amount of horticultural grit mixed into the soil at the time of planting. This will aid drainage for the roots of the plants. This isn’t essential but it will certainly help plants, especially those in heavier soil. Soil improver or peat free multi-purpose compost would also be a great addition as this will provide more nutrients and goodness into the soil for the plants to establish themselves.
Don’t fear the plants, they are less scary than you might think! For all our designs we provide you with a planting plan and general maintenance notes for the chosen plants. Our planting selections are based on plants that require seasonal care rather than regular weekly care leaving more time for you to sit and enjoy your garden.
Yes, you sure will!
All trees and plants will need regular watering especially within their first year of being planted and especially in periods of prolonged heat. We recommend that where possible, water your trees and plants in the morning and or evening and not during the hottest and sunniest part of the day. If under the first few inches of soil it all feels and looks dry, then this is usually a good indicator that your trees and plants could do with a good watering.
